Hurricane Gabrielle, which recently peaked as a Category 4 storm, is now tracking eastward toward the Azores. The storm has weakened slightly but still carries winds strong enough to prompt hurricane watches across the islands, where gusts could reach 80 mph and seas may rise 40–60 feet.

After sweeping through the Azores, Gabrielle is forecast to transition into a tropical rainstorm, bringing heavy rain and localized flooding to Portugal, Spain, and southwestern France. At the same time, meteorologists are closely monitoring two tropical waves in the Atlantic, one of which could move north and pose a direct threat to the U.S. East Coast later this week.

The second tropical system is projected to impact Bermuda with gusty winds and rain by early next week. If both waves develop, the Atlantic could host multiple named storms at the same time as Gabrielle weakens. Experts warn the 2025 hurricane season has entered a heightened phase, with activity ramping up sharply.
