Behringer JT-2: Mono oder paraphonisch? Dieser Synth kann beides!

Behringer introduced the JT-2, a fully analog synthesizer module that captures the essence of the legendary Roland Jupiter-8 in a compact Eurorack-compatible design.[1][2] This desktop or rack-mountable unit supports both monophonic and paraphonic operation, allowing musicians to craft everything from punchy leads to lush pads. Priced affordably, it targets producers and performers seeking classic analog warmth without the vintage price tag.[3]

Dual VCO Heart Powers Versatile Sound Design

The JT-2 centers around a pair of voltage-controlled oscillators that faithfully recreate the Jupiter-8’s circuitry.[2] Each VCO offers sawtooth, triangle/sine, and square waveforms, with the second oscillator adding a noise generator. Users access pulse-width modulation, hard sync, and frequency modulation for intricate timbres.

Cross-modulation between oscillators expands creative possibilities, while LFO and envelope routing target individual VCOs. This setup produces fat basslines, soaring leads, and evolving textures suited for studio and stage. All parameters adjust via dedicated knobs across 53 front-panel controls, eliminating menu diving for immediate tweaks.[1]

Classic Filters and Modulation Depth

A switchable 12dB or 24dB low-pass filter with resonance defines the JT-2’s core tone, paired with a separate high-pass filter for precise sculpting.[3] These components mirror the Jupiter-8’s responsive response, enabling everything from subtle sweeps to screaming peaks. Voltage control ensures compatibility with modular envelopes or sequencers.

Modulation comes from a multi-waveform LFO – sine, saw, square, and random – alongside dual ADSR envelopes featuring key follow. These sources animate pitch, filter cutoff, and amplitude dynamically. The result delivers the organic feel of vintage poly synths in a single-voice package.[4]

Key Sound-Shaping Tools:

  • Dual VCOs with PWM, sync, FM, and noise
  • 12/24dB resonant low-pass VCF + HPF
  • LFO (sine/saw/square/random)
  • 2x ADSR envelopes with key follow

Arpeggiator and Play Modes Enhance Performance

The built-in arpeggiator stands out with up, down, up-down, and random patterns spanning four octaves. It syncs to MIDI clock for tight integration in larger rigs. Autotune functionality keeps pitches stable, ideal for live sets.[2]

Monophonic mode handles single lines with priority voicing, while paraphonic operation allows two-note chords sharing a single filter and envelope. Poly Chain links multiple units for up to 16-voice polyphony, approximating the Jupiter-8’s chordal capabilities. Colored buttons control arpeggio modes intuitively.[5]

Seamless Connectivity for Modern Workflows

At 80HP wide, the JT-2 slots into Eurorack cases or stands alone with its included power supply.[4] Patch points include CV in for pitch, gate in, sync in, and filter out, plus front-panel MIDI input. Rear connections feature 1/4-inch audio out, MIDI thru, and USB for computer control.

Comprehensive MIDI supports note, velocity, and CC messages with channel selection. Preorders opened recently at around $189 to $299, positioning it as an accessible entry to Jupiter-style analog synthesis. Availability follows soon after its April debut.[1][3]

This module bridges modular experimentation and standalone performance, ready to inject 1980s analog magic into contemporary productions.
