Dr. Heavenly Kimes has stepped away from her campaign for Congress after a strong but ultimately unsuccessful showing in Georgia’s Democratic primary. The Atlanta-based cosmetic dentist and star of Married to Medicine finished second in the race for the state’s 13th Congressional District. She made the announcement Tuesday evening, May 19, after the votes were tallied.

Primary Results Shape the Path Forward

Rep. Jasmine Clark captured more than half the vote and will now face Republican Jonathan James Chavez in the November general election. Clark, who has served in the Georgia House since 2019, advanced without a runoff. Chavez ran unopposed on the Republican side.

The contest filled the seat left vacant by longtime Congressman David Scott, who died in April at age 80. Kimes had entered the race in March after initially exploring a state-level bid, positioning herself as an outsider focused on public service rather than career politics.

Kimes Shares Gratitude and Resolve

In a video posted to Instagram, Kimes congratulated Clark and thanked the volunteers, donors, and voters who backed her effort. She noted that the campaign built a genuine movement and gave everyday voices a platform in the district.

“This is not over – we’re going to come back,” she said. “We came in second place. We beat elected officials. We built a real movement. And most importantly, we showed that everyday people still have a voice.”

Kimes singled out her husband, Dr. Damon Kimes, for the late nights and personal sacrifices that sustained the effort. She also thanked her children for giving up time with her during the intense months of campaigning.

Supporters Offer Encouragement

Messages of support poured in from fellow cast members on Married to Medicine. Dr. Jackie Walters called Kimes a “rockstar” and added that the experience marked only the beginning of her public journey.

Kimes has indicated she intends to stay engaged after what she described as a historic run. The campaign, though short, highlighted her background as a mother, physician, and business owner who sought to bring fresh perspectives to federal office.

Key points from the concession:

  • Finished second in a six-candidate Democratic field
  • Built a volunteer-driven movement across the district
  • Received public backing from Bravo colleagues and family
  • Plans to remain active in public service
