The Enigma UFO reporting application has compiled extensive data on unidentified submersible objects, known as USOs, appearing near American coastlines. These reports describe phenomena that cannot be immediately identified or explained by conventional means. The findings add a new dimension to discussions about unexplained aerial and maritime activity across the United States.
Defining the Phenomenon
USOs refer to any object or event detected underwater that resists straightforward identification. Witnesses often describe lights, shapes, or movements beneath the surface that do not match known marine life, vessels, or natural occurrences. The term distinguishes these cases from traditional UFO reports focused on the sky.
Reports frequently note objects that appear to enter or exit the water without creating visible disturbance. Such details have prompted renewed attention from researchers who track anomalous sightings through public submissions.
Data Collected by the Enigma Tracker
The Enigma application, launched in late 2022, serves as a centralized platform for logging global reports of unidentified phenomena. As of August 2025, it had recorded more than 9,000 U.S. sightings within 10 miles of shorelines or major waterways. Of those, roughly 1,500 specifically referenced water, ocean, lake, or beach settings.
Approximately 500 reports occurred within five miles of a coastline. More than 150 described objects hovering above the water or moving directly into or out of it. The majority of these sightings took place in the early morning hours between 5 and 10 a.m.
- California recorded the highest number of USO reports at 389.
- Florida followed with 306 reports.
- East Coast regions accounted for 282 sightings within one mile of water.
- West Coast areas logged 127 similar reports.
- The Gulf of Mexico contributed 40 cases, while the Great Lakes region had 15.
Geographic Distribution and Reporting Trends
Clusters of reports appear along both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts, with additional activity near major inland waterways. The concentration in populous coastal states aligns with higher population density and greater opportunity for observation.
The app has also released maps that plot these sightings as clusters of points along the shoreline. These visualizations help illustrate patterns that might otherwise remain scattered across individual accounts.
Enigma maintains a separate collection dedicated to USO reports, drawing from both recent submissions and historical records. The platform continues to receive new entries, allowing ongoing analysis of how these reports evolve over time.
Context Within National Security Discussions
High-ranking U.S. Navy officials have previously noted the presence of fast-moving objects in maritime environments that challenge standard detection methods. These observations predate the current wave of public reports and underscore longstanding interest in underwater anomalies.
The Enigma data provides a public complement to official channels by aggregating civilian accounts. While the reports remain unverified in many cases, they contribute to a broader record of unexplained maritime activity that warrants continued examination.
