New York – A.J. Ewing arrived from Triple-A with limited experience and delivered exactly the kind of spark the Mets needed. The 21-year-old outfielder collected his first major-league hit in dramatic fashion and helped New York pull away for a 10-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night. The win came at a time when the club is already dealing with multiple absences among its regulars.

Speed and Timing Define Ewing’s First Night

Ewing wasted little time showing why the Mets turned to him after just 12 games at Syracuse. He walked three times, scored twice, drove in two runs and stole a base. His biggest moment arrived in the seventh inning when he ripped an RBI triple for his first career hit, becoming the first Mets player to record a triple in his big-league debut. The performance stood out even more because of how quickly Ewing reached the majors. He had played only 58 games above High-A before the call-up, yet he looked comfortable against major-league pitching and finished the night with a strong all-around line. – Three walks
– Two runs scored
– Two RBIs
– One triple and one stolen base

Alvarez Injury Compounds Mets’ Depth Issues

The victory carried a cost. Catcher Francisco Alvarez doubled and scored in the fourth inning before fouling a ball off his right knee in the sixth. He was removed from the game, and the team later announced he will undergo imaging on Wednesday to determine the extent of the injury. New York already sits without shortstop Francisco Lindor, first baseman Jorge Polanco and center fielder Luis Robert Jr. The latest setback leaves the club even thinner behind the plate and in the middle of the lineup as it tries to climb out of an early-season hole.

Peralta Holds Firm After Early Trouble

Freddy Peralta gave up a leadoff homer to Dillon Dingler and a sacrifice fly to Spencer Torkelson in the second inning, putting the Tigers ahead 2-0. The right-hander settled in after that, working out of jams and making a key defensive play in the fifth when he backed up a throw and cut down Colt Keith at the plate. Peralta allowed seven hits over six innings, struck out seven and walked one. He improved to 3-3 and earned his second straight win after a rough stretch earlier in the season.

Tigers Continue to Stumble Away From Home

Detroit’s struggles on the road showed no signs of easing. Jack Flaherty lasted just 3 2/3 innings, surrendering three runs and six hits while throwing 97 pitches. The Tigers fell to 7-17 away from home and have now lost six of their last seven games overall. The club will turn to left-hander Framber Valdez on Wednesday night in his return from suspension, while the Mets counter with right-hander Christian Scott, who is still seeking his first major-league victory.
