Miami – A family’s desperate bid to shield a woman from domestic turmoil ended in unthinkable loss when her boyfriend gunned down her two brothers inside their shared apartment. Gianni Pierre, 28, and Jaheim Pierre, 23, arrived Saturday afternoon amid escalating tensions, only to face fatal gunfire from Antwan Carter, 31.[1][2] Carter’s actions left pools of blood staining the scene and a community reeling from the swift tragedy.
Roots in a Troubled Relationship
The couple had shared the Liberty City apartment at 5329 NW 17th Avenue for about four years, marked by a pattern of domestic violence that alarmed the woman’s family.[2] The brothers grew concerned enough to intervene directly on May 2, 2026, around noon. Their sister, whose identity remains protected due to victim status, had reached out amid the latest dispute.
Neighbors later recounted hearing the disturbance build. One resident, Gina Kirk, described waking to five rapid gunshots followed by a door slam beneath her balcony.[3] The protective instincts of the Pierres propelled them into a situation that quickly spiraled.
Argument Ignites Physical Fight
Inside the apartment, tensions boiled over into chaos. The sister argued with Jaheim, prompting Carter to interject. Jaheim struck Carter, drawing Gianni into the fray as the three men scuffled.[1]
Carter briefly exited the residence, heading to his car reportedly for fresh air or to retrieve items like his wallet, keys, or even candies.[2] The sister, fearing escalation, urged a neighbor to summon police and locked the door upon her return. Despite her warnings, Jaheim opened it when banging resumed.
Fatal Return and Gunfire
Surveillance footage captured Carter’s reentry: he pocketed an object from his vehicle, pounded on the door shouting, “I bet one of you won’t open up,” then rushed inside firing multiple shots.[1][2] Gianni slumped wounded beside the couch; Jaheim fled toward his sister before collapsing in a closet, his blood soaking her clothes and feet.
Miami Fire Rescue declared Jaheim dead at the scene. Gianni reached Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital but succumbed shortly after.[4] Spent casings littered the floor, evidence of the rapid barrage.
On-Scene Confession Seals Fate
As officers arrived to screams and reports of gunfire, a bloodied woman identified Carter as the shooter and her brothers as victims. Carter, pacing nearby, approached an officer and declared, “I am the one; I have the firearm.” He surrendered a 9mm Glock 43 from his pocket.[4][1]
“See what you made me do.”

To detectives, Carter claimed self-defense, saying the brothers squared up with fists raised upon his return. The video evidence painted a different picture of premeditated aggression.
Court Holds Suspect Without Bond
Charged with two counts of first-degree murder – a capital felony carrying potential death penalty in Florida – Carter appeared in Miami-Dade court Monday wearing a green vest.[1] Judge Mindy Glazer denied bond; he entered a not guilty plea and remains at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.[3]
Here is a brief timeline of the incident:
- Brothers arrive at apartment amid domestic concerns.
- Scuffle erupts; Carter leaves briefly.
- Carter returns armed, forces entry, opens fire.
- Victims succumb; Carter confesses immediately.
- Arrest and murder charges filed.
The public defender’s office declined comment as the case advances. For the Pierre family, the void left by two lives cut short underscores the perils lurking in cycles of abuse.
