Mumbai, April 24 – Larsen & Toubro announced its entry into the B2B industrial electronics sector through a new vertical named L&T Electronic Products & Systems (LTEPS).[1][2] The company commissioned initial manufacturing lines at its Coimbatore campus in Tamil Nadu, positioning the division to serve both domestic and international clients. This move builds on L&T’s established strengths in strategic electronics.[3]
Aligning with National Self-Reliance Goals
L&T Chairman and Managing Director S N Subrahmanyan highlighted the strategic significance of this launch. He noted that the initiative supports the company’s Lakshya 2031 vision, which emphasizes advanced technology leadership and bolstering India’s capabilities in critical manufacturing areas.[1] LTEPS aims to strengthen the domestic electronics ecosystem amid growing demand for indigenous solutions.
The division extends L&T’s expertise into innovation-driven fields. It adopts a model combining internal research and development, partnerships, and robust testing facilities to produce reliable products.[2]
Headquarters and Manufacturing Foundations
LTEPS maintains its headquarters in Bengaluru, where research and business operations take place. Manufacturing activities center on the Coimbatore facility, which features state-of-the-art infrastructure tailored for electronics production.[1] Two production lines have already started operations, marking the practical start of commercial activities.
This setup leverages L&T’s existing campus in Tamil Nadu. The proximity to skilled labor and supply chains in the region supports efficient scaling.[4]
Key Initial Setup:
– Headquarters: Bengaluru
– Primary Manufacturing: Coimbatore
– Initial Capacity: Two commissioned lines
– Additional Site: BESS factory in Kanchipuram
Core Offerings and Future Roadmap
The new vertical targets several high-potential domains. These include power electronics, mobility solutions, industrial robotics and automation, communication platforms, and electronics systems design and manufacturing services.[3][2]
- Power electronics for renewables and energy storage
- Mobility components, such as EV motor control units
- Automation systems for robotics
- Customizable communication and design services
Expansion plans outline a comprehensive 40-acre zone at Coimbatore. This area will house the full value chain, from R&D and product development to contract manufacturing, sourcing, testing, and validation.[1] Such growth positions LTEPS to capture opportunities in India’s projected $500 billion electronics market by FY31.[4]
Positioning for Long-Term Impact
L&T, a USD 30 billion multinational, brings decades of engineering prowess to this venture. The focus on IP-driven platforms and customizable solutions addresses evolving industrial needs.[1]
As manufacturing ramps up, LTEPS stands ready to contribute to India’s push for technological independence. Early products like motor control units for electric vehicles signal practical advancements already in motion.
