DeLeon Springs, Florida – Authorities arrested a 12-year-old girl after she allegedly sent an explicit threat to a teacher at her elementary school, vowing to “shoot up” the facility on the last day of classes.[1][2] Deputies traced the message to her despite its origin from a classmate’s account. The incident, flagged over the weekend, prompted a swift investigation by the Volusia Sheriff’s Office.[3]

The Graphic Threat Surfaces

School safety software known as Gaggle alerted deputies to a disturbing message directed at a teacher at Louise S. McInnis Elementary School.[2] The lengthy rant included personal attacks on the teacher, admissions of self-harm, claims of abusing a girlfriend, and inappropriate conduct toward female friends.

Most alarmingly, the sender declared, “Oh yeah and last day im shooting up the school, revolver style.” The message closed with, “Get me hoes (expletive) yall all yall are ded.”[1] According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, “In addition to threatening the teacher, the sender said they were going to shoot up the school on the last day.”[4]

Unmasking the Sender

Investigators initially noted the threat came from a 12-year-old boy’s student account. Further probing revealed the girl, his ex-girlfriend, had accessed his login credentials.[3] She composed the message using his credentials, attempting to disguise her involvement.

Deputies moved quickly once they identified her. The elementary school, located in Volusia County, became the focus of immediate scrutiny as officials ensured safety protocols took effect.[1]

Arrest and Felony Charges

The 12-year-old faced arrest and transport to a juvenile facility. Video footage captured deputies escorting the handcuffed girl from a patrol car, shackling her ankles before placing her in a cell.[2]

  • Making written or electronic threats to kill (felony)
  • Unlawful use of a two-way communications device (felony)

Both charges carry serious consequences under Florida law. The Volusia Sheriff’s Office released details to underscore their commitment to addressing such threats promptly.[3]

Response Highlights School Vigilance

The rapid detection via Gaggle demonstrated the value of digital monitoring in schools. No injuries occurred, and the last day of classes proceeded without incident following the arrest.

Officials treated the threat with utmost seriousness amid heightened awareness of school violence. The case serves as a reminder of how technology both enables and detects potential dangers.

Authorities continue to investigate any related factors, but the immediate threat has passed.
