Puttaparthi – A ₹15,803-crore combat aircraft project has moved from planning to execution after the foundation stone was laid on nearly 650 acres in Andhra Pradesh. The development marks one of the larger defence manufacturing commitments in the state in recent years. Officials expect the facility to generate 7,500 direct jobs once operational.

Scale of the New Facility

The project site covers close to 650 acres, providing substantial space for manufacturing, testing and support infrastructure. This land allocation reflects the scale required for modern combat aircraft production lines. Construction activity is now expected to begin in phases following the ceremonial start. The investment of ₹15,803 crore positions the facility among the more capital-intensive defence projects announced in the region. Such funding typically covers specialised equipment, technology transfer arrangements and long-term operational setup. Local authorities have already begun coordinating land development and utility connections to support the timeline.

Employment and Skill Development

The project is projected to create 7,500 jobs across technical, engineering and support roles. These positions will range from skilled technicians on the assembly floor to engineers managing quality control and logistics. Training programmes are likely to be introduced to align the local workforce with the specialised requirements of aircraft manufacturing. Job creation on this scale can stimulate demand for housing, transport and education services in surrounding areas. Suppliers and vendors serving the main facility may generate additional indirect employment over time. State agencies are expected to work with the project developers to ensure recruitment processes prioritise regional candidates where possible.

Regional Economic Effects

Defence manufacturing projects of this magnitude often anchor broader industrial growth in the host region. The Puttaparthi facility could attract ancillary units focused on components, tooling and maintenance services. Over several years, this cluster effect tends to raise local income levels and improve infrastructure quality. The initiative also aligns with national efforts to expand domestic defence production capacity. Andhra Pradesh stands to benefit from technology inflows and long-term contracts that accompany such large-scale investments. Monitoring committees will track progress on land use, employment targets and environmental compliance as construction advances.
