Canadian travelers facing another harsh winter now have expanded options to chase the sun, thanks to Porter Airlines’ ambitious network growth. The carrier announced plans to more than double its sun destination capacity by over 150 percent for the 2026-27 season, introducing nearly 5,000 flights across more than 40 warm-weather routes.[1][2] This surge includes four fresh destinations and 15 new routes, providing convenient nonstops from cities like Toronto, Ottawa, and even western hubs such as Edmonton.

Andrew Pierce, Porter’s vice president of network planning and reporting, highlighted the strategic buildup. “Our network is growing by two new countries, four cities and 15 routes through this announcement,” he stated. “Six airports across Canada are benefiting from this service, giving travellers many new and competitive options for choosing their winter getaways.”[1]

Four New Sun-Drenched Destinations Open Up

Travelers can soon head to previously unserved spots in the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. Porter added service to Aruba’s Queen Beatrix International Airport (AUA), Montego Bay’s Sangster International Airport in Jamaica (MBJ), San José’s Juan Santamaría International Airport in Costa Rica (SJO), and Los Cabos’ Los Cabos International Airport in Mexico (SJD).[1] These join established favorites like Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Nassau, Grand Cayman, and Liberia.

The expansion marks Porter’s push deeper into traditional vacation markets. For instance, Porter becomes the only airline linking Ottawa directly to Aruba and Los Cabos, while Hamilton gains a unique route to Montego Bay. This development responds to strong demand from the airline’s inaugural season of southern flights beyond the U.S.[1]

  • Aruba (AUA): Pristine beaches and clear waters await.
  • Montego Bay (MBJ): Jamaica’s vibrant culture and resorts.
  • San José (SJO): Gateway to Costa Rica’s adventures.
  • Los Cabos (SJD): Mexico’s dramatic Pacific coastline.

15 Fresh Routes Reshape the Schedule

Porter rolled out specific new connections with defined frequencies and launch dates, emphasizing eastern and western Canada alike. From Toronto Pearson (YYZ), flights launch to Aruba starting October 30, 2026, five times weekly; Los Cabos on November 16, three times weekly; Montego Bay on November 23, five times weekly; and San José on December 2, four times weekly.[1] Ottawa (YOW) gains twice-weekly service to Aruba from November 7, Montego Bay from November 25, and Los Cabos from December 18.

Further afield, Hamilton (YHM) connects to Montego Bay twice weekly from December 20, while Halifax (YHZ) starts four weekly flights to Fort Lauderdale (FLL) on December 17 and three to Cancun (CUN) the next day. The carrier also boosted frequencies on routes like Ottawa-Cancun (now 10 times weekly) and Hamilton-Cancun (six times weekly).[2]

Western Push: Alberta Enters the International Fray

A standout feature involves Alberta airports, marking Porter’s first international flights from the province. Edmonton (YEG) launches three weekly trips to Puerto Vallarta (PVR) on November 3, daily to Phoenix (PHX) from November 6, four weekly to Los Cabos from November 16, and four to Las Vegas (LAS) the same day.[1] Calgary (YYC) follows with daily Phoenix service from December 20.

These additions extend connectivity via partners like American Airlines for onward U.S. travel. Vancouver resumes Phoenix flights, and Toronto doubles daily service there. Such moves cater to prairie residents weary of long layovers for beach breaks.[1]

Transat Packages Streamline All-Inclusive Dreams

Complementing the flights, Porter partnered with Transat to offer vacation packages blending non-stop air service with hotel stays. Destinations include Nassau, Grand Cayman (George Town), Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta, departing from Toronto, Ottawa, and Hamilton for travel on or after November 1, 2026.[3] Options mix all-inclusive resorts and European Plan hotels, with over 25 properties added and 30 exclusive to Transat.

Renée Boisvert, Transat’s vice president of tour operator products, noted the value: “Through our partnership with Porter Airlines, we’re expanding our reach with sought-after destinations like Nassau and George Town.” Porter’s Edmond Eldebs added, “The introduction of packages gives Canadian travellers another seamless way to experience Porter’s elevated flying experience paired with Transat’s trusted package expertise.”[3]

Passengers benefit from Porter’s signature perks – no middle seats, complimentary drinks in glassware, premium snacks, and free WiFi on Embraer E195-E2 jets. As bookings open, this overhaul promises shorter escapes from cabin fever, connecting more Canadians directly to sunshine without the hassle of connections. Families and couples plotting getaways stand to gain the most from these timely enhancements.
